Watch exclusive interviews from the
MarketingSherpa Media Center — live from
IRCE, the world's largest e-commerce event

Jimmy Wales, CEO and Founder, Wikipedia

Watch this exclusive video, recorded live at IRCE in Chicago, as MarketingSherpa's Daniel Burstein interviewed the IRCE special guest speaker Jimmy Wales, CEO and Founder, Wikipedia. Chatting in the MarketingSherpa Media Center, Wales revealed how user-generated content on e-commerce sites can empower an online community to evangelize your brand.

Instead of thinking of user-generated content as free labor, Wales emphasized the importance of providing your customers with a way to join and engage with an online community.

"Don't think about [user-generated content] as the work that you want customers to do, but rather, what they want to do and how you can empower people to do it," Wales said.

Wales and Burstein also discussed why Wikipedia does not track its site visitors, as mentioned in a Wall Street Journal article.

Watch this video to hear more from Wales on how to police user-generated content, particularly for e-commerce sites.
