SUMMARY: The question is so simple that it's scary to ask: are your subject lines broken? Even if you think they're OK, read on, especially if you're in the SMB category and do your own email blasts.
Our friends at Pivotal Veracity passed along an exclusive special report this morning with new data from tests they conducted on 18 ISPs and how subject lines get displayed. The results may surprise you. Plus, solutions to fix the problem. |
You can also type your email subject line into Word, edit and spell-check it, then block and copy it into Notepad (on Windows XP, Start > Programs > Accessories > Notepad). This will remove all the email-unfriendly formatting. Then block and copy the text from there into your email form subject line. Notepad removes formatting on body copy as well, although you have to reinsert paragraph breaks, indents, and other formatting once you're in your email program. If you've put a shortcut to Notepad on your desktop, you can remove formatting in seconds from any text - very useful if you're reusing copy from a white paper or other uniquely formatted document.
