Registrars.com Tests Paying for Articles to Appear in Hundreds of Local Newspapers

SUMMARY: Yes you can pay to plant articles in regional newspapers. Check out this article to see headlines of articles that get lots of attention, and to hear how paid articles worked for one company.
Last year Registrars.com gained more than 30,000 SOHO (small office/home office) customers by planting stories such as the following in literally hundreds of local newspapers:

- Know the Law When Naming Web Sites
- The Web Changes the Way We Do Business
- Young Cyberspace Capitalists Score Big
- Making Millions Off Internet Domain Names
- How To Register Your Own Internet Address

Instead of using a traditional PR firm, Registrars.com President Paul Lum contracted NewsUSA, a media relations company that guarantees your story will be run in a number of local newspapers. With Registrar.com's input, NewsUSA wrote and planted more than 100 stories over the past year resulting in almost 5,000 media placements reaching millions of small business owners and marketers.

NewsUSA's spokesperson told us, "You won't get a lot from one feature. People need to see your name repeated many times." Unlike PR Firms, NewsUSA's fees depend on how many media placements your story generates. Tests start at about $25-50k, while full campaigns run around 150-200k.
